Artist Bio:

In January I exhibited in “Claybodies”, the University/TAFE exhibition, and joined Studio Potters at the same time.
I began working with clay in 2007 when I attended Newcastle Art School to study Certificate IV in Visual Arts & Contemporary Craft.

I slowly became aware of the diversity of different types of clays and the massive amount of glazes to suit each type of clay, also the reality of needing to concentrate on only one or two clay bodies and appropriate glazes to suit the bodies, and my wallet.

I thoroughly enjoyed my 2007 experience, and realizing I had only “scratched” the surface of ceramics I enrolled in Certificate III in Ceramics the following year.

One of the beauties of studying at TAFE is the range of materials that are available for students use and study. Both earthenware and stoneware clays are provided along with a massive amount of materials and minerals for making glazes of all descriptions.
Being spoilt with such a large range of materials to work with makes the decision of which firing range to work in a little difficult.

In 2010 I returned Newcastle Art School and completed the Diploma in Ceramics.
In this course I learnt to throw vessels of 5kg and 8kg in weight, I am rather proud of this achievement so wish to continue down this road along with the hand building of boats and female forms.
I am lucky to have brought an electric kiln, a wheel, some tools and raw materials from a retired potter. I have put a small extension on my garage and am now in the process of connecting power and water to “the studio”. Look out art world here I come.

I am very happy to have been accepted as a member of Studio Potters and look forward to meeting fellow members.
